Child Eligibility Guidelines:
Children between the ages of 4 and 17 who reside in the Dream Come True service area for a minimum of 6 months who suffer from a serious, chronic or terminal illness (e.g. Aids, Cystic Fibrosis, Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy) or who suffer with an illness that has significantly altered their quality of life. The child must be able to derive enjoyment from a dream and must be able to articulate a dream. A child is not eligible for a dream if he/she has received a dream from another wish granting organization.
How to Become Eligible:
The child must be referred to DCT in writing or via the on-line form. Anyone may refer a child (e.g. doctor, mother, teacher, friend, etc.). The letter must state the child's name, age, address, diagnosis, parents, name, address, and telephone number. Once the letter is received by DCT, DCT will mail an authorization to the parents, which will explain the mission of DCT and ask them for authorization to write to two doctors where DCT can verify diagnosis. NOTE: a child is not deemed eligible for a dream at this time. The doctors verification will determine if the child is eligible or not.
Ineligible Children:
- Severe brain damage, irrespective of the primary diagnosis. Severe being described as "incapable of enjoying a dream" as determined by a physician or trained professional.
- Short term, completely treatable conditions.
